Skills for Employment Tanzania Project
Empowering Young Women through Tailoring and Batik Making for Sustainable Income — the SET initiative, executed by Swisscontact, seeks to boost employability among Tanzanian youth through vocational instruction in agriculture, hospitality, and manufacturing sectors.
The programme integrates technical training, life skills, and entrepreneurship components, with curriculum aligned to labor market needs through continuous analysis. In 2024, the project expanded into the Iringa region, collaborating with Don Bosco Youth Training Centre (DBYTC) to provide instruction to 200 young mothers in tailoring and batik-making across two six-month cohorts.

As of the last update, the first batch of 100 students was in its skills training phase with one month remaining; students had mastered sewing skirts, gowns, and shirts, with remaining focus on shorts, trousers, and batik. Batch two was scheduled for August through October, with overall project completion targeted for December 2024.
